And apparently, players were told that money had nothing to do with the decision. Rumblings are that SFU covets an NCAA hockey program.

Simon Fraser was the only Canadian football program playing in the NCAA. It became apparent that something drastic was going to happen when the Lone Star Conference did not renew their football conditional membership...and there aren't many west coast Division II schools to look for new conference membership.

They started playing in 1965 and last had a winning season in 1996...so not a lot of success over the past couple of decades. Their football history is at https://college-football-results.com/f/sfraser.htm

Last winning season in American football. They played Canadian university football from 2002-09, with winning seasons in 2003 (losing the national semifinal) and 2008.
