I agree with No Name that I think navy blue has been used by Ga Tech as the "dark" color for at least the last thirty years or so, though possibly not always before then. If you search for photos of the other Tech sports teams (basketball, tennis, etc) you'll see that the dark uniforms are always blue rather than black, because I think they standardized this at some point in the 1980s, possibly to differentiate from conference opponent Wake Forest. This may not have been the case in the 1970s and earlier, though.

The school mascot 'Buzz' is an exception - his suit is black and gold.

The officeial colors are old gold and white. Nave has been an athletic color since at lest 1978. This site has color codes for pro and college sports. He has went through a major chnge and has not completed Div.III and NAIA, but he has a lot done. http://www.colorwerx.net/portfolio/atlantic-coast-conference-1953-1954-through-present/
