Subject: Bridgeport Purple Knights

Hi,

Long time lurker and fan. I realized that I might have found one of the elusive major teams the site has been missing: the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights.

School opened in 1927 as "The Junior College of Connecticut" and became the University of Bridgeport" in 1947, for the '48 school year.

Some photos (unfortunately B&W, but the basic uniform/helmet design was put online) - https://gridirongarb.blogspot.com/2021/11/bridgeport-purple-knights-1948-1974.html

Program was alive between 1948 to 1974

Also Arnold College ("Terriers") which is listed as "Bridgeport" was in 3 differenct cities (Brooklyn as "Broklyn Normal School of Gymnastics", New Haven "New Haven Normal School of Gymnastics", and final spot in the Pond Point area of Milford, CT) and a small school (300-500) that created a some NFL talent (Andy Robustelli and Allen Webb).

Hope this helps!

Thanks, I've looked for information about that team from time to time, but never found much of anything. Fortunately the university has now digitized and published its old yearbooks, so there is at least a little information. I can add that design with the "B" logo, which was apparently the last one the team used.
