There is a special waiver for D3 schools to join D1. I think Pioneer or MVFC for football.

Schools would have to get a special waiver to jump from D3 to D1. As it stands right now, a school has to reclassify from D3 to D2, which can take at least four years, stay there for another five years, and only THEN can they begin the reclassifying process.

The Pioneer Football Conference was created for schools that played D1 in all sports but had football teams in lower divisions. That conference is a non-scholarship conference.

There is a loophole that a D3 school could get the waiver. Being kicked out of your conference without a home counts as a special circumstances that the loophole could go D1.
