The record is a bit murky here. Looking at Valpo's record in 87-88 and the next few years, it is questionable whether Homer Drew had much more to work with than Kampe did when he moved to D I. It is true that we moved to D I in the late 70's, but I bet if RPI was being calculated back then we would have been in the bottom 10-20 schools of Division I - the same with the Sagarin's if they had been calculated back then. With today's number of schools that would have put us in the 300+ range. Do you mean to tell me you are certain that VU could have taken Oakland if the two teams had played back then? From what I hear, Oakland was a D II powerhouse. I would think you guys would have had an excellent chance to beat us.

I think your D II players were better prepared to take on the Mid-Con in 1999 than Homer's D I players were in 1988. We may have been D I, but recruiting wise we were getting the bottom of the barrel for the most part until Scott Drew figured out the European connection. I think you might be overestimating the difference between D II recruiting and D I recruiting in this particular case.
