For the love of it, we teased that boy in school…
We created his tears, his constraints, our fuel.
He wasn’t like us, he was different to our world
Of tire swing castles and boys vs. the girls.

But in the eyes of a third grader,
The world exists only in two extremes.
Forever inoculated by the Cootie shot-
There’s realizations, and there’s dreams.

The wheels of his wheelchair didn’t save him from Hell
They only slowed his departure from cruelty’s harsh spell.
Then one day, he touched my heart as years melted and grew
I found my old yearbook and wondered of the boy I never knew…

Did our mistakes cause his future’s road to change to dirt?
Did his wheels get stuck somewhere, spinning in the hurt?
Funny how seduction works, it’s not just a lover’s fling
But can convince you to be cruel to anyone and anything.

But in the eyes of memory,
The world exists only in two extremes.
Forever lost on that Memory Lane
Where there’s regret and forgotten dreams.

I’ll never forget the day I learned he decided to let go
And slipped into our darkness, his heart, pure as snow.
He wasn’t corrupted by the trends and our clichés
He was just a simple boy who longed for no more todays.

No friends at his funeral, we never looked past his chair
To see the friendly boy who had resided there.
I had completely forgotten that I never saw him past third grade
Odd how some parts of life completely start to fade.

But in the eyes of regret,
The world exists only in two extremes.
Forever mourning the friend never met…
Head bent down in silent scream…

Your words reflect yourself
Make sure the mirror isn’t two-sided
