Subject: Chill Short-Circuit Thunder, take 2-1 Lead

The Minnesota Chill improved to 15-9 on the year, pulling out another squeaker 3-1 over the 13-10 Chicago Thunder last night at the St. Xavier University Shannon Center in Chicago. The line score was 17-25, 27-25, 25-22, 28-26.

Chill outside hitter Tyra Harper scored 11 kills, 2.5 blocks, and 3 aces for 16.5 total points. She also contributed one set assist and 13 digs. Other major contributors to the Minnesota success were outside hitter Nicole Branagh (14-1-0-15) and setter Lindsey Berg (2-1-1-4, 6 digs, 47 set assists). The immortal Addie Mahnken had 9 digs from her customary libero spot.

For the disappointed Chicago squad, outside hitter Kristee Porter showed why she was named the USPV Offensive Player of the year today, scoring 12-3.5-1-16.5 with 8 digs. Also outstanding for the Thunder were middle blocker Kelly Kennedy (4-6.5-0-10.5, 1 set assist, 3 digs) and setter Bonnie Bremner (1-1-1-3, 5 digs, 32 set assists).

Porter averaged 19.2 points per match this spring, which included 4.7 points per game. Both marks led the league. Her 289 kills, 32.5 blocks, 24 aces, and 345.5 total points were quite impressive. Porter scored over 20 points in half of the 18 regular season matches, including a phenomenal 32-point effort against lowly Grand Rapids.

Match 4 (possibly the clincher) will take place Sunday afternoon, again at the Shannon Center. If Chicago wins and forces a Match 5, the series will move back to Rochester for the final match. GO CHILL!!! GO TIGERS!!! GO ADDIE!!!

Coach Tore Aleksandersen mentioned that the Chill did exactly what they had to do to win. "We won the important points and kept the pressure on Chicago."
