UOP coach expands staff

The Record

Gary Dean is returning to University of the Pacific.

Pacific women's basketball coach Craig Jackson announced Friday that he has hired for Pacific player Dean as an assistant basketball coach. Jackson will be entering his first season as Pacific coach and Dean's hiring completes his coaching staff.

Dean played at Pacific from 1973-75 under coach Stan Morrison. In his final season, Dean was the Tigers' team captain, and he was the most valuable player after leading the team in scoring and rebounding.

Dean was also an asistant men's coach under Morrison from 1975-79 and head coach of the junior varsity crowd.

''It's like coming home,'' Dean said. ''I still have many friends and many great memories from Pacific. I look forward to working with Coach Jackson, the rest of the staff and the team.''

Dean has been an assistant coach at UC Riverside the past three seasons. he has also coached at USC and Pepperdine.

''Gary brings a tremendous ammount of experience to our staff,'' jackson said.
