UOP snubbed, Gaels have season extended

Pacific's women's basketball team had another bitter pill to swallow on Sunday. After losing in the Big West tournament final on Saturday, the Tigers could only wait to see if they were invited to a postseason tournament.

The phone never rang.

While the Pac-10 placed four teams (USC 15-13, Oregon 17-13, Washington 17-11 and Oregon State 16-14) in the Women's National Invitational Tournament, the 19-11 Tigers were snubbed.

"Not to have any representation from us or our conference is a disappointment. It's really hard for me," Pacific coach Sherri Murrell said. "We put a really strong schedule together ... and to me, we had a strong finish. We were really hot right now."

Two other Northern California teams did make the field. San Francisco (18-11) will host USC, and Saint Mary's (16-12) will be at Oregon.

"I thought if San Francisco and Saint Mary's are there," Murrell said. "We should be in there."
