Jay John, assistant coach at Arizona the past four years, has been offered the job as head men's basketball coach at Oregon State, the Gazette-Times has learned.

John, 43, a native of Tucson, becomes OSU's 19th head coach. He was formerly an assistant at Oregon.

OSU's other top candidates, Pacific coach Bob Thomason and South Florida coach Seth Greenberg, dropped out of consideration Monday.
