The Cincinnati Bengals used the franchise tag to retain place-kicker Mike Nugent, who was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent March 13.

Nugent will earn approximately $2.7 million for the 2012 season. He made 10 of his 11 fourth-quarter field-goal attempts for the Bengals last season and 90.9 percent overall, rebounding from a season-ending knee injury in 2010.

It's the second time the Bengals have used the franchise tag on their kicker. They applied the tag to Shayne Graham in 2009.
