Subject: hey Waldo!

I seem to recall you got a digital camera fairly recently. Like it or not (mostly not) I need to upgrade my own camera and I suppose my research should involve digital. I have approximately 7000 questions but I'll start slow.....

What are your general impressions of digital vs slr/point & shoot (whatever you had before)...picture quality, ease of use, pricing, portability, accessories/add-ons, pricing...whatever you feel like sharing.

My first consideration is image quality. I insist on clear, sharp photos and it's the main reason I haven't wanted to part with my 'antique' Canon T-50. At the very least the flash attachment is shot and needs replaced and/or it's hiding another problem. Of course I'll be doing the standard 'mom' thing-holiday photos and crap like that but the primary focus is for sports photos. Football games and gatherings, and of course hockey. Subjects will be moving and/or far away, glass or a net in between the subject and me, indoor and outdoor. Since I'm forced to spend money one way or another, I may as well get something that's not so heavy and bulky to cart around, if I can find something I can live with.

There seems to be a considerable price difference and I'm not really looking to make a huge investment right now. I'd appreciate any advice or opinions you might have from your personal experience.

If any of you other 'loonies have a thought, be sure and share it. Waldo is a known shutterbug, and therefore my first target.
