I remember reading that a lot of docs were performing the procedure despite little or no formal training -- and thus were unable to cope with any unforeseen complications. The message was -- do your homework. One of the biggest secrets of the medical world is that doctors are not necessarily required to receive a lot of training in the use of new procedures or equipment before having a go at it.
