... of habitual and customary heartbreaks from Heartbreak U. we've always had the propensity for playing our hearts out/over our heads/pulling miracle comebacks/improbable late leads out of our asses only to be laid low on the last play of the game by some unlikely miracle or dumb luck or divine intervention or something. i still remember a game in Tulane where the refs called three consecutive totally bogus phantom pass interference calls (on one their receiver tackled our defender, but we got called for pass interference) handed them a come-from-behind miracle victory. LB Marty Moore once 'sealed' a victory with a clutch late-game interception, only to try to run it back and fumble the ball back so that the other team then picked it up and ran it in for the game-winning TD, instead.

at least it saved us the embarrassment of our dumbass fans bringing down the goalposts for a team merely ranked #16 (or whatever) that we've actually beaten something like the last five out of ten times.
