Third arrest after assault

POLICE investigating an arson and assault which took place in the Botanic area of Belfast on Boxing Day have arrested a third man, it emerged today.

A 46-year-old man was arrested yesterday and is currently helping police with their enquiries in connection with the weekend attempted murder.

A man in his 50s was seriously assaulted in the house in Ireton Street and remains in hospital. Police believe that following the assault, the house was set alight. A woman in her 30s who was in the house at the time was treated for smoke inhalation.

Three men are now in police custody in connection with the incident. A 26-year-old man was arrested yesterday, while a man in his 40s was arrested on Monday.
