Subject: I have a friend

The introduction to this page sounds familiar to me. I have a friend that suffered from Polio when he was 3. Since it happened when he was so young he never really learned anything about Polio. He may have been slightly different from his friends, but that didn't stop him, and like the person in the introduction, nothing could stop him from doing what he wanted - until now. Actually, he has recently noticed that he is feeling weaker and I believe he has some fears that it may be related to having had Polio.

There is so much published on the internet about PPS, I'm not sure if it is a good thing to introduce him to all of the information out there or not. Is it helpful to know about PPS before you believe that you may be suffering from it? Or is it better to wait? I've come across many studies - but I haven't seen any analysis that might say - if you suffered from this variaton of Polio at the age of x, and you had a x% loss of y, it is forecasted that you will lose such and such strength over these years. I don't know if any analysis of that type exists. What is the best way (is there any) to understand how much PPS may have an impact on your life style?

I care about my friend very much. He is a terribly proud individual that will have a very difficult time adjusting his life style if it becomes necessary. I just don't know if I should do anyting. I would appreciate your opinions.

Thanks!

Julie
