Subject: Children of Polio Survivors

First please allow me to say....Thank God I found this site.....IF I am "crazy"....then I'm not totally alone!
I am also the child of a polio victim who is now suffering with chronic muscle pain, spasms, fatigue. My mother had polio in 1937 (age 3) For the last 40 years I've sworn that my good health has due partly to the fact that I inherited her "super human immunity" to viruses.....I NEVER get the Flu even though I take no precaution to avoid it. I'm a relatively small woman but my profession for the past 26 years is that of construction worker. People have marveled at my physical strength and energy....until the last 6 years. NOW, I'm barely able to go to the grocery store alone, I'm exhausted constantly and the pain never stops. I was diagnosed with "fibromyalgia" but most other doctors say that's a "wastebasket disease" when they don't know what else to tell you!

I suspect that it will be some time before anyone gets serious about researching the connection between Polio and the symptoms that us "children" now have but if anyone knows of new information that I can whap my doctor in the head with and say....."it's NOT in my head, idiot...it's in my muscles!" I'd sure appreciate it! :-)

Karen
