Hi, I have to trim my Eastern Chipmunks teeth about every two weeks. I use the plier-style fingernail clippers, they look like small wire cutters.

It is best done with two people, I restrain the chippy on her back, usually in my lap. I have a helper (my 3-year old daughter often is the helper) hold a popsicle stick behind her teeth (like a horse bit) to hold her mouth open and to isolate the teeth so her tongue doesn't get caught by the clippers.

Once everything is isolated and secure, I clip each tooth. You have to squeeze firmly and don't introduce a twisting motion while you squeeze. Wear safety glasses- the tooth fragment can fly far.

It does NOT hurt the chippy, she doesn't even flinch when the cut is made. (though she doesn't appreciate the restraint or the popsicle stick in her mouth)

If you have to do it once, you will probably have to do it again, so it makes sense to learn how to do it, it takes less than a minute once you get the hang of it. I should post a youtube video when I get time.
