Subject: Changing Brake Master Cylinder on '82 by Greg

Huey,
FIRST - Make sure you actually NEED a replacement. Check the hose and checkvalves for leaks/blockage.
Should you need a new one...
QED. You will need to do the following:

1.Drain brake fluid from resevoir (turkey baster)

2. Undo brake lines to master and carefully move aside a wee bit.

2.1 Have someone hold the pedal to the floor, and use vicegrips to hold rod in extended position.

3.Undo the four nuts inside the car holding the booster to firewall.

4.Remove the clip from the brake pedal, and slide the pivot pin aside (shouldn't have to completely remove, but not sure on your MY)

5. Booster is a MONDO tight fit. But will come out.(if you don't have the rod fully extended, and held you will NOT be able to withdraw the old, or insert the new. Ask why I know...)

6.Reassemble. Fill master. Bleed brakes. Check all functionality in the relative safety of your driveway before taking that first run.

A used one s/b available for your MY for ~$50. I don't have my catalogs handy for a price on a new one, but hit the 'big3' websites.

HTH,

Greg
