I've been restoring an '81 for more years than I'd like to admit. I run the car every week to keep things lubed up. Being almost done and getting ready for the road, I went through the engine and did t-belt, h20 pump, all fluids, all filters, all belts, alternator, tensioner ...too many things to list. Everytime I'd go to finish, I'd find something else I just couldn't let go. After about 2 monthes and 2 grand, I finished. I go to start the car and no fuel pressure. The fuel pump (which I replaced last year) was getting power but not turning. After messing with it for a while it kicked in but was making awful noises (I suspect gas had turned to varnish). The car ran but was rough and noisy.

I added techron & MMO to the gas and just MMO to the crankcase and jumped the fuel pump relay for about 30 minutes. You could actually hear the pumps tone changing over time. Its dead quiet not. Also, it appears to have helped the check valve as it holds pressure much longer now. I ran the engine and have been dialing it in after all the work done. It sounds great! How much is the mystery oil, techron and how much is "tuning", I don't know, but it does appear that I get less injector clatter and the valves sound quieter. I can't wait to lower the car and go for a blast!
