Subject: Valve timing

I recently replaced the timing belt on my 82 928 Euro. I found the timing marks listed in the manual just did not work. I finally got it running by doing by eye. The TDC or OT marks and the cam marks simply did not jive. They were, from the looks of it, 180 off. Is there a different method for timing the cams on the Euro models? If so, can anyone tell me what it is? I don't want to run the car with out timing it perfectly.
