It is incredible that these women are saving the children by taking away the basic rights that our forefathers put into place to protect us. The second amendment is there to make sure that the people are never defenseless, and these women's emotions are being used to make us all slaves to the system. "was" is the key word here. eerything written in the constitution was made to fit in with life back the, and in those times, we half expected the british to come back and blow our bloody heades off at any time! guns were needed for the militia, and while you are so keen on following the second amendment, that is specifically what it says. they could never have predicted how carried how carried away guns were goin to get in the next 200 years! I am not for banning all guns. i belive that hunters should be able to use guns. the point i am trying to make, though, is that handguns need to be BANNED. if you need facts to back up that this will work, lets look at great britain. handguns are completely banned there; even police officers just carry around big sticks. that might sound stupid, but if you look at the numbers, here's how many handgun-related deaths accured in great britain: less than 10 .....hmmmmmmm....if we compare that to our OVER 5,000 HANDGUN RELATED DEATHS, it sure doesnt seem liek alot, now does it? in my opinion, if a law will save just one innocent life, then that life is worth saving, and this is an idea that could save far more than 1 innocent life. think it over, and get back to be on that! Second of all, the Second Amendment was not just meant to provide us with a way to protect ourselves against outside forces, but against our own government. This was a measure to ensure that a tyrant would not become unstoppable. And despite what certain people would have you believe, this is always a threat. Some people say, "well that happened in Germany, this is America, it couldn't happen here." SAYS WHO????? Just because we live in the home of the free and land of the brave doesn't mean we won't get some sick tyrant with enough pull to get us in a bind. Supposing that there were only 10 handgun related deaths, how many murders were committed with other weapons, like knives, and since this is England, bombs, which I'm sure have been banned for longer than handguns. Oh, and if you haven't been following the news, they are considering letting the bobbies carry handguns because they are almost powerless against the criminals. You talk about saving 1 innocent life by taking away the real way we have to defend ourselves. That sounds very nice, and I am all for saving lives, but at what cost? Our Freedom? Banning cars would save lives, and people die in swimming pool and even bathing accidents all the time, should we ban these too? Fact is, we have already seen our rights slowly taken away, and if the government succeeds in taking away the only protection we have against a tyranical government, all is lost. Oh, last thing, if we are morons for believing that our constitutional rights should be protected, I can't even imagine the ignorance involved in believing that our rights should be taken away. As a matter of fact the British did come back in 1812. But your framing of the argument shows your ignorance of the subject matter. Madison wrote the second amendment based on our absolute right of self defense. Do you really think that if every handgun was confiscated by the government, that the absence of handguns would make a difference? How would the absence of handguns transform an evil wicked hearted person that places no value on human life into a good citizen? You appear to only find death by handguns as being offensive and regard all other forms of murder as unavoidable. Get a grip and study the document called the U. S. Constitution and try reading the Federalist Papers while you are at it.
