Subject: Cantering

Hey Everyone! I have a really awful problem that I just can't seem to figure out, and I really need your advice and your help. I've been riding for quite some time Western style. I can walk, trot, canter, and gallop with no problem. However, when I ride my horse in an English saddle, things don't go quite so well. I can walk and trot very nicely, but when I go to canter, my legs seem to flop, even though I feel like I'm following his motion. I just feel totally awful, and I know I'm not cantering right! Do you have any tips on the correct cantering position and how not to flap around in the saddle? Any would be appreciated! Thanks!

Jenni

Put your weight into your stirrups. I sometimes have trouble with bouncing up and down, but it works 80 percent of the time.

Hey we have the same name, pretty cool.
For cantering heels down is great as Kristen said, also don't grip with your knee (it's a no no) but with your calf and thy. I hope that helped

try a deep seat.. an english saddle is obviously diffrent frm western and the feel is diffrent... heels down and sit up stright and keep a deep seat and go with the horse.. this sounds dumb and kinda corny haha but oyu and the horse are one.... thats hwat i do.
