Subject: *!* ADVICE NEEDeD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been riding for a little under a year. I don't know what level of riding I'm on. I am already jumping and doing dressage. Could anyone also help me with another problem? I ride a trotter horse and he is really hard to canter. When I ask him for canter he just trotts faster and I end up bumping him with my legs all the time, and even that does not work. Also this horse sometimes ignores my leg aids when we are heading for an obsticle, he slows down on purpose and we end up stopping and then jumping. Help . Tell my what to do with this horse.PLEASE GIVE ADVICE

Hey,
I have been riding for several years and I ride western, english, dressage, hunter jumper, and I ride polo all of the time. I heard that you were having trouble cantering your horse. Well I have a morgan that doesnt want to canter most of the time also. What you should try is to hold his head up high so that he cant buck or try to just stop if you know what i mean. You shouldnt hold it up too high where he has to stop but high enough to where the point is that he cant do anything about what youre telling him to do so he has to do it. Have you tried spurs and maybe a crop? Well what I would do would work with him EVERYDAY with either a crop or spurs to get him goin. As soon as he recognizes that you need him to work harder than he has been in the past then he will start SLOWLY progressing. When you feel he will canter without the crops or what ever then try with out them. Also dont kick when you want the horse to go faster you squeeze and click or kiss. Let me know how it works out. My email is westernridergal7@yahoo.com. GOOD LUCK-Karina

Hey,
I'v been riding for 10 years or so, i do english, western, hunter jumper, and barrle racing. I would do what the other person said as well.. try spurs.. not huge ones we call cookie cutters but try smaller ones. That shoudl work.. and do you do nay work on a lunge line? dose he canter on a line? Maybe try and get someone to help you with this and it may seem liek something you would do if your just leanring, but your horse is not you.. so get a partner to help you and put your horse on the lunge line, get on your horse and have your partner holding the lien and try cantering on the line... your partner may have to use the lunge whip but try that and see how it goes..

PLAN B: push your seat bone forward at the trot! PLAN C: use spurs or a crop!
