Subject: Goal Setting

Hi guys,

I have some goal setting to do.

When I started on this weight loss journey in late feb, i weighed 111kg. I initially set my goal at 80kg. That meant i had to lose 31kg. It just seemed so far off, I didn't really think i would get there, but i wanted to give it a go. During the way i set 5kg goals, 10kg goals, stone lost goals (these weren't always major goals, just took note as it gave me incentive).

Well, I did reach my target of 80kg. I wanted to keep going. I felt that i could keep going. I didn't want to sit on 80, I wanted to get into those 70's (cmon they have to be good, i was born in 78!!!)

Once I reached 80, I started thinking, what do i aim for now? I then set myself the target weight of 75-77kg. This is what I am thinking about now. I am creeping up on 77kg. Is this where I am going to want to be, or will I keep going?

You may be asking what is my "healthy weight range". Well, the highest end is 71kg. Are you wondering why I'm not aiming for that then? To be honest, I cannot see myself at that weight. I have boobs (I dont want to lose!), hips and I am quite broad. I dont think I would look all that nice at 71kg, but then again, maybe I will.

I had been feeling guilty for not making 71kg (at least) my target weight. This prompted me to see a dietitan. She practically scoffed when I said I was feeling guilty for not trying to fit into the "healthy weight range". She said these ranges are quite old ranges, and don't suite everyone (please note i am not trying to offend ww for using these ranges). she says i will not have failed in my journey if i dont aim for 71kg.

What do you guys think? Is it a cop out if i dont go for 71kg.

I love this journey. If i thought I might look decent at 71kg i would aim for it (and make it!)

I am now fitting into 12-14 pants. I am really happy with this. I even have a size 13 pair of jeans.

Can you guys give me your thoughts. Please be honest.

Sorry for the long post.

Cheers

I think it really depends on you and your height. I don't think your boobs will go down. If anything they'll become a bigger cup but smaller in circumference. eg 18B to a 10 or 12C or D.

What height are you? A 12 on a taller person will appear like a size 10 on a smaller person.

And importantly, CONGRATULATIONS on all the weight lost so far.

I think you should aim for a little below your goal because at least you have room to move if you gain a little, but still fit into the same clothes.

My "mini goal" isn't official - it's just I prefer to 1kg under my goal weight, just in case. But that's just for me. When on maintenance you do go up and down as much as 1kg in a month, but stabilise overall.

Hope I haven't confused you.
Have a nice day!

This is a good topic here.

I have set my goal weight with WW at 55kg, my range is 48-60kg. However, as I have done the whole WW thing before, I know that for me 55kg is too much for my height so I personally want to get to 48kg. You may ask why I did'nt set my goal lower then, well I wanted it higher in case I find it hard to stay around 48-50kg, so I have a bit of leeway there(sp?).

Currently, I am only 1.6kg away from my WW goal, which is great and can't wait to get lower each week. Perservance really is the key and I am liking the way I look more each day, now want to work on the bottom half of me, espically my thighs/

Hi Skylar

I was thinking of putting a post like this here too. I'm 170cm tall, and my healthy weight range is 58-72kg. Currently I'm 78.3kg.
I don't attend WW anymore (bad experiences) but my goal is 70kg. I don't know why it is that, just a number I think I would be happy with. BUT it is very very hard to know until I actually get there (the last time I was about 70kg was when I was about 14 years old. I have ALWAYS been overweight, so I feel it just wouldn't be me if I was at the lower end of my weight range. I will reassess when I get to 70 if that is where I want to be.
As for the boobs, don't worry you'll still have them, I've gone from a 16DD to a 12D so they are still most definately there!
I don't think it's a cop out at all if you don't make the "textbook" healthy weight range. You do what you feel comfortable doing.

What are everyone else's thoughts, especially those of you have reached goal or near to it, what made you decide your goal weight??

Cheers

I chose exactly halfway in my weight range as my boobs are big and it's useless to think I should be at the very low end. My hips are a size 8, shoulders size 8-10, but my boobs are 12DD. Talk about feeling topsyturvy. So work that one out! :)
