Hmmm... Käsittääkseni kun ammoniakkia on vedessä, niin se on muodossa NH4+ eli ammoniumina (jos nyt yhtään kemiaa muistan, niin ammoniakki on vesiliukoinen). Ainakin paikoin USA:n suurviljelmillä lannoitetaan ammoniakin vesiliuoksella, ja ammoniakki on hyvin myrkyllistä eliöille.

Eivät USA:n pellot vielä ole pilalla (paitsi ammoniakilla lannoitetuilta pelloilta tuskin löytää kovinkaan monimuotoista maaperäeliöstöä), mutta pian ovat. Suurin ongelma entisten aroalueiden viljelyssä on eroosio eli pintamaan kuluminen.
