Maybe it's a regional thing, but when I was a kid (and I'm younger than any of you) stores did not open. Not convenience stores or gas stations. There was a law on the books, and I believe it's still there, that mandated a pharmacy be open a portion of the day for emergency purpose. Outside of that, if you didn't get what you needed on Wednesday, you were SOL on Thanksgiving.
