Okay.. if you get confused about anything..feel free to ask me. I usually keep everything that is going on in the game pretty straight.
If you are a pirate then yes, your character would know how to fly a spacecraft...and being a spy would probably have some gadgets as well. He would probably have alot of electronic equiptment, bugs, trackers, penetration and hacking devices..etc.
