I think some competitions just take scrutineering to extremes,

there is no references in the Rules to 'taping everything that's metal', but a lot of people have accepted the (wrong) attitude that 'if it's metal, it can scratch'

just like paddles... metal is hard! but so are composites!!!
- do they want to ban composite paddles as well ?!?!
