I reckon the hand tackle rule needs to be cleared up a lot.

I've been in any number of situations where I have rolled up, only to find that I can't understand what the ref is calling. Then, I find it's advantage. Bearing in mind, that we push someone over so that they hold the ball for five seconds or lose it, then I have the following suggestions.

1. If it was an illegal tackle, then giving the tackled player the penalty is fairer because they then have a full 5 seconds to play the ball. They should also have a chance to get their paddle back after the hand roll so that they can contribute.

2. Pushing someone into the side of the pool is dangerous. A referee should stop the game anyway to card the offending player.

3. You can't throw the ball all that accurately underwater. It's not a situation where you can advance the ball, because you have to come up first before you can do anything. Just because the player has the ball doesn't mean they have the advantage. They've been fouled, after all.

4. BOTH SHOULDERS HAVE TO BE UP. I recently got tackled before my boat was upright and was pushed into the wall by that illegal tackle. Not pleasant to be out of breath and trying to roll against the wall.

So, down with illegal hand tackles!
