> >nov.20-68 i was with the 4th combat eng.as a demo sp. we were attach to the 1/12th inf rifle platoon,we were the 4th eng, airmoble assult team and repaller's, at that time part of the 4th inf was trying to close the rout 511 chock point and two teams of us had to attach and hold two hill top's for fire suport bases LZ Swinger and LZ-20.we were on our way into LZ SWinger when the first chopper was shoot down and every one was lost ,myself and team were on the next chopper and we made our approch and had to jump about 15 to 18 feet from the ground , and started our fight while the other choppers were comming in we did our best to keep the VC down. my friend barry herron and his team was on the 3rd chopper behind us to come in ,and when they got there he and i and 1 infantryman took a 51 anti-aircraft gun out,in the next 5 days we set up a 105 h base and on the 25th of nov. we reloaded & made a airassult with the 1/12inf. on the rout 511 ..in the next 10 days we took over the 511 and blow over 600 VC bunkers --and i still didn't get any turkey.on the nov. 30 we met and regroup with another unit and moved on into VC valley...thank you and god bless all that made it back and may god which over those's that didn't come back..

FNG Medic just only country since 16 October '68 and completed all of the 1st Cav's processing from the 90th Replacement Btn in Long Bien to HHB of 1/30 Artillery in Da Nang. Spent the night in a tent in Da Nang along side of a runway where diesel trucks and tractors were moving supplies and equipment all night. The smell was awful. It was only surpassed by the smoke in the tent that we all were later breathing while sleeping when some idiot in the tent was careless with a cigarette and started a smoldering canvas fire. Arrived at Camp Evans in time to help with preparations for the 1st Cav Division's move south to III Corps (Phouc Vinh). Exciting times! Ah, we were all so immortal in those days.
