I was a Marine in Vietnam 4/68 to 5/69 .I spent Christmas night on the wire on the northern "new perimeter" of Camp Books north of Danang . Camp Books was the Hqs. of Force Logistics Command or FLC . That Christmas was the lonliest Christmas of my life and those of my fellow Marines . Although we had a little Christmas tree in our hootch ,with a Budweiser can for a star on top that was handed down to us from Marines who served before us , and although the brass tried to cheer us all up as best they could with a terrific meal (I still have the menu), it seemed like no matter how hard we all tried , nothing could releive the pain and lonliness of being so far from home and family! That night on the wire , I was shot at and returned fire immediately . So much for the so-called "cease fire" that was supposedly in effect . I guess nobody told Mr. Charles that he wasn't supposed to shoot at us on Christmas . In any event , every Christmas since 1968 has been gravy for me , but , Christmas always brings thoughts to my mind of our men and women serving in our Armed Forces around the globe .To all our veterans and to all members of our armed forces who might read this ,Merry Christmas ans Semper Fi !
