Saudi firm ready to fight lawsuit

JIDDAH, Saudi Arabia -- A Saudi corporation listed in a $1 trillion lawsuit filed by relatives of Sept. 11 victims said it would appear in a U.S. court to defend itself against accusations of financing terrorism.

The Dallah Al Baraka Group said in a statement late Thursday it had previously cooperated with international legal bodies and denied "haphazard accusations leveled after the Sept. 11 incidents." It did not elaborate.

It said it was ready to appear in court, although it has not been officially notified of the lawsuit.

The Jiddah-based group owns Al Baraka Investment and Development Corp., one of the companies named in the Aug. 15 lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va. The 15-count federal suit seeks to cripple those it contends financed the Sept. 11 plot, including the Sudanese government, some members of the Saudi royal family, banks and charities. -- ASSOCIATED PRESS
