Subject: Rheubottom?Rowbottoms of Eccles Lancashire

I am researching the above family and have found many variations of the name.Mine have been Rowbottom, Rowbotham etc., eventually Rheubottom. This way of spelling seems to be concentrated in the Eccles area.As the family wre probably illiterate, did the enumerater learn to spell Rheumatism at school.
I am back to John (1802) who states on the 1841 census that he was born in the County but I am yet to find his birth. He married a Martha Mort (1803) at St., Marys Eccles on the 29/07/1822 and they had seven children.
I have about thiry other names all in Eccles but have yet tie them in with my family. Some of these people came to Eccles from Macclesfield and Frodsham.
I have had contact with other researchers on Genes-reunited and I now have a copy of a letter written by one researchers ancestor who states that the Rheubottoms were Huguenots who fled from Flanders after being persecuted for their religion. This could tie in with the family being silk weavers and eventually cotton weavers.
Does anyone connect with any of this?.
