Subject: Thomas Rubottom

As you will notice , here is another variation on the family name.My Thomas RUBOTTOM was estimated to have been born around 1763. He was found on an 1851 census as living at 104 London road Northwich Cheshire. His daughter Catherine my GGGGgrandmother married my GGGGgrandfather Charles BROADY around 1821 in Witton Northwich.Thomas Rubottom was listed as a retired Flatman on the 1851 census. I was told that there were a number of Rubottom or other variations of the name who were Flatmen.
Flatmen were boat people who sailed boats along the river Weaver to Liverpool carrying salt or coal back from Liverpool.
Does anyone out there have a connection or can add to my records?
Thank you

Hello Mike,
I am a new visitor to the site.
Have just read your details of Thomas Rubottom. I am researching the Rheubottoms of Eccles, Lancashire ( thought various spellings).I do not know if it is a coincidence but I have a ancestor with the name Annie Broady Rheubottom and we have been puzzled as to where the Broady came from, could there be a connection?.
Regards,
Catherine
