Akira's head snapped in the direction of the action, the calm look on his face gone, replaced with shock and fear for his comrade. "Elena, no!" he cried. He lept to his feet and flew like lighting towards Elena. All the bucks of the herd had to do was whip their proud heads around and attack with their antlers. A silver blur, Akira made his way swiftly to the center where Elena was.
"Father!" Keso yelled in alarm. Akira rushed in to attempt a quick kill, opening his jaws and snapping at the doe's throat. He knew, at least, her reaction time would be down from her age and her weakness. They had to make it quick. Elena had provided the opening, but at a risk. Once the doe was dead, the deer would have no reason to stay, and it would be over.
