Raise interest rates to stop inflation, -- the old line. Inflation right now is caused only by oil costs spiraling everything else upward, case closed. The Fed raised interest rates is why the spiraling costs of housing, the "housing bubble", caused by bad credit rules, burst earlier then it would have otherwise; but this bubble would have burst anyway, on its own. Interest rates rising causes inflationary trends that affect the entire market, just as oil costs affects everything; because everyone needs a building. Credit rules that cannot be lawfully broken, (true affordability demanded, and fair, real appraisals are adheared to), will prevent hyper inflationary trends in housing.
