Saturday 27th May 2000 Droylsden 142-4 Heyside 145 for 3

Droylsden beat the odds to get in a 30 over game against Heyside on Saturday but couldn't beat their Oldham opponents.
The Oakfield side scored a creditable 142 for 4 wickets thanks to Steve Haughton 32, Mike Schofield 20 and Paul Smith 24. Gareth Dent making his first appearance off the season scored 22 not out and hopes were high for a first victory of the season.
The home side were really fancying their chances when Paul Smith bowled the very dangerous Melbourne Austin and Cuthill in quick succession but that brought the visitors skipper John Stapleton to the wicket. The former Oldham rugby league player laid into the Droylsden attack to score a scintillating 65 not out and with the aid of Small 37 not out Heyside romped home to a 7 wicket victory.

Sunday 28th May 2000 Staly 122 all out Droylsden 194 for 7

Droylsden only had to wait another 24 hours to register their first victory of the season. They once again batted first against their Tameside neighbours and recorded their highest score of the season.
Skipper Steve Haughton was a huge influence on the game scoring 72 and with the help of good innings from Gordon Chin 32 and Gareth Dent 36 they finished on 194 for 7.
Haughton blew the top order away with 4 quick wickets including the Staly professional Asim bowled first ball and Mo Fairweather took 3 wickets in one over to reduce the home side to 63 for 7. After a late order revival Smith with a wicket and Haughton with two more rapped up a comfortable victory for the visitors. Haughton completed a very satisfactory all round performance to finish with 6 for 27.
