Sunday 4th June 2000 Greenfield 73 all out Droylsden 117 all out

After the disappointment of a rained off game against Friarmere on Saturday Droylsden registered an impressive victory on Sunday against league leaders Greenfield.
With all the rain over the previous 24 hours the Yorkshire side worked hard to get the game on and it was a gamble by the Droylsden skipper to bat first on a very damp wicket.

The gamble looked to have backed fired when both Gordon Chin and Steve Haughton were dismissed without scoring, by young Kyle Hogg. Gareth Dent 16 and Mike Ratcliffe with a solid 24 were able to stabilise the innings but the innings of the day was played by another youngster Mike Schofield with a more than useful 40 runs.
Former Droylsden professional Lawrence O'Brien mopped up the Droylsden lower order to finish with 5 for 32 and Hogg had good figures of 3 for 22.

Droylsden's only chance of victory was to dismiss O'Brien cheaply but when he and fellow opener Ogdon put on 31 for the first wicket that seemed most unlikely. However Paul Smith was about to produce a magnificent spell of bowling. First knocking over O'Briens off stick and then with the help of some good fielding, Dent's diving one handed catch in the covers to dismiss Ward being the pick, the tall seem bowler blew away the Greenfield innings with figures of 8 for 35. Haughton supported with 2 for 31 and the Oakfield revival is up and running after a poor start to the season.

The Saddleworth league have selected both Steve Haughton and Gareth Dent in their side to face the Bolton Association at Flowery Fields ground on Sunday in the Manchester Evening News knock out.

The 2ndXI match due to be held in the Droylsden lido was abandoned due to the pool only being half full.
