How many true-blue AMERICAN franchise owners are MUCH more impacted by this than any Saudi investor?

Nice idea... I'm no economist, but I would guess any significant impact would be unlikely, and in the meantime Joe Johnson loses business, even though he has NO control whatsoever over where the gas he sells comes from

Not everybody is going to do this anyway. We have millions of Muslims and sympathizers right here in good ole USA that will continue to support these companies. Additionally, these companies can 'see the light' and start buying oil from non ME sources??

It is a subtle message, but might influence big companies to start buying there oil from other places...

I'd of course rather we get away from oil altogether, but that will take longer...

Most stations sell so much more than just gas now anyway. And the large companies can be influenced to start buying non ME gas if there is public support. JOE Franchisee won't be overly hurt by this and the big companies will start using non ME sources fairly darn quick if they see the population is calling for it.

Not many people will go to the mini-mart at Exxon if they are getting their gas at Sinclair, so your logic is faulty.

Of COURSE it FEELS good, to THINK you're hurting the enemy. (I'd love to kick them below the financial belt) BUT, this endeavor hurts the WRONG people... local businessmen take the brunt of the financial loss, and the ME oil tycoon feels AT MOST a teeney tiny blip which will be immediately resolved by selling elsewhere. Oil is too global of a market for tiny local boycotts to have impact on anybody other than the local guy trying to make a living.

This boycott is more likely to result in college students who work at the mini-mart counter getting laid off, than hurting the financial portfolio of any ME oil tycoon/investor

you could dump all your stocks and mutual funds that invest in Exxon, et.

THAT would be a clearer, louder more meaningful statement, that's for sure.

But, that would likely impose a financial loss on YOURSELF instead of on Joe Franchise.

Still willling? hmmmm?
