In reply to: Lee 's message, "Characters will have to be made (I think) on the actual server we get going" on 11:04:34 06/22/02 Sat

Reasons against server chars:
The server should run on the machine with the best connection. this means it could be a player machine, since DM's don't have to run the server themselves. They just need to connect to it using the DM client.

Since not everyone can play at the same time, different people might have to host the game. That means all the possible hosters would need to exchange the server chars on a regular basis to keep them synced and up to date.

Also if the hosting player/DM/co-DM can't make it for a game, then everyone else is screwed because they can't access the server characters.

some reasons why to use local chars:

We can move between hosting servers easily. That means if our main host is not available (player is busy in RL, conn troubles, etc), we just have another person host the game.

When a players RL schedule changes, that player can just join the other game session without having the hosting player transfer his char to another possible host.

With locally stored chars every player is responsible themselves for backing their characters up! That means people can only blame themself when they fuck up and the chars are lost.

And lastly, I trust that everyone in this campaign is mature enough not to cheat ;)
