 Here's a mod that you can use to learn a bit more about character advancement. It has no story; it's just about walking in talking to a dragon, getting enough exp to raise your character to ANY level you want (you choose which level you want your character to advance to). There's a shopping mall where you can go get gold and buy almost every magic item in the game and see how they work. And then there's a PvP hall with some tough monsters you can go mess with your new character. I'd experiment with different classes and races. Just noodle with the mod and see what you can see.
