Yeah, I don't think I want to micro-manage spell-casting. I don't think there's anything we can do about players receiving spells upon level advancement. Why would I really want to denude the wizard class (which would be the major victim if we limit the amount of magical learning in game)? The actual rules don't really bother me so much and the social aspects of Faalor. That's what we can actually control. Spell casters will get their rule-allowed spells and can use them as they see fit. What we will probably limit would be the amount of extra spells wizards can add to their spell book or make it a "quest" to get more. And we would also impose some sort of social stigma on clerics who cast their spells willy nilly (for clerics who get WAY out of hand, I'll just let their deity decide how to deal with them *grins*).

Magical items are really my concern here. I remember some campaigns were I would follow the book and by 8th level the party is soooo buffed out it seemed ridiculous. On the other hand, I think, the D&D encounter system takes into account the assumption of a certain level of magical enhancements. So, we just need to decide what is appropriate. Would a 5th level character have only a +1 dagger and have never seen another magic item? How about a 10th?
