It was yesterday morning that you escaped the ever-changing caverns that snaked far and wide below Faalor. Though you were able to defeat Thalan, you were not able to save the young girl in his clutches, and, as you soon found out, the demoness whom you let free nearly a week ago, still runs free in Bridalveil.

The good news is not a single undead had been seen since you were able to kill Thalan; the bad news is the band of thick fog still enshrouds the town. Several attempts have been made to escape the mists only to come to a bad end. Ramund Helstrom, a local farmer, tied a 400 foot rope around himself and entered the mists, only to stagger around for nearly an hour before his farmhands pulled him back. He reported feeling like he was walking on thin air and soon could not tell up from down. He also heard strange, unwholesome noises, like the hissing whispers of long dead friends tempting him to stay in the mists. One of the Knights of Calumus who went off to meet Yurissa’s troops finally showed back up, as healthy and hearty as he is he had only entered the mists a few minutes ago. Indeed, he believed that he had only just now left to fight Yurissa.

The greatest fear now in town is starvation, because the town relies so heavily on the farms outside of town for food. Luckily, the radically decreased population and the full pantries at the University (laid in in case of another siege) guarantee survival for at least six weeks. After that, things may become desperate.

Of all the dwarves that originally were in Bridalveil, only three remain. Only one professor at the University remains (because he was busy finishing a book the day the rest of the faculty went off to explore the new cavern created by the earthquake . . . and became tortured and mangled corpses at the hands of the Splurgorth). The Knights are down to a half-dozen soldiers as is the constabulary and Militia. The Mayor, Bulvan, has sequestered himself in his home with his mistress and has not been seen for a couple of days. When massagers come to report to him, he sends them away after an abrupt acknowledgement.

You’ve had the afternoon, evening and night to rest and recover your strength. After speaking with the Head Constable (Gordyl Tindum), Robert Hughes, one of only six Constables now left alive in Bridalveil, was ordered to gather whomever would want to help in the task of finding out how to get the town back to normal.
