smart move, as stations were getting annoyed at playing rap back then when it came on the show, and they weren't running it locally. some call it rap without the C....LOL...that's up for debate.....

yes, but you have to respect affiliate stations feedback. they are the ones running the show. they don't necessarily play everything that's running on the national charts, because as program directors, you try to program your station from a local audience point of view...you take the national charts and put your own local perspective on it, by knowing your market, and what can and cannot work. this is why it was a smart move to diversify AT40 into both a hot AC version and a AC version, as the charts diversified as well. hot AC is usually everything for CHR minus the rap and hard alternative, while the AC version is more mellowed down then even the hot AC, and can have different songs then the CHR or hot AC version. the lucrative 25-49 demo (that the advertisers all know and love) doesn't necessarily like rap or hard alternative, and as local stations program accordingly, you have to make changes from a national countdown point of view. eithier cut the songs, or diversify into different versions of the countdown. ABC should have done this....they stupidly didn't!
