I don't know if the radio listener can say that songs were edited by the production team.
I have been listening to AT40 since 1984. I am sure that the editing sometimes is made by the airing radio station.
For example I remember the 1988/89 song "Paradise City" by Guns 'N' Roses whose album version featured a speed-metal sequence I did not hear when I listened to AT40 with Shadoe Stevens on VOA Europe.
The same applies for the song "November Rain" a few years later, but then the reason was the length of this song.
