Prior to the fall, the Commonwealth was exploring inter-dimensional travel. This resulted in getting noticed by the Abyss and the Maggog invasion. Over a period of the invasion, they explored in much the same way The Crew did in finding out about the Abyss. After sending Andromeda on a Suicide mission, they learnt of the Abyss, and in order to bide their time created the treaty which pissed off the Nietzscheans. During this time the Vedrans were attempting to create a path to the Route of Ages, and as a result the system was lost and is now Seefer. Trance(s), then "stuck" in the Route began exploring various universes for someone(s) who could 1. stop the Abyss and 2. return Taren Vedra to it's place in the universe.
