Funny how plotlines zig and zag until you wind up with something so totally different then you had planned. I'm not saying it's a bad thing. As a writer I love surprising myself. But I have the luxury of time to correct my story if where I ended up isn't where I want to be. Televison writers usually don't have this option. The deadlines are killers and not handing in the script on time ISN'T an option.
Both Andromeda and Enterprise ran into this problem. Andromeda became a bunch of characters looking for a story.
During the past two years it never really found it. It has good three dimensional characters but tossing them into two dimensional stories is a waste. Enterprise was a little different in the sense it had a great storyline arc but it found it a season too late. It lost its audience. Andromeda is on the verge of the same dilemma. When people don't care about your characters it's time to either re-invent them or get new ones.
You can bash the shows all you like but it won't change the reason why we still watch them. With any luck the writers for the next season will drastically reel in a exciting plot/arc and give life to basically a dead show. Maybe that's why they killed over 90% of the cast...again.
Time will tell.
Warren
