When her back was turned,
someone broke away small pieces of her
and scattered them across uneven ground.

It took days
weeks
to gather herself again,

Patiently collecting shards
of each emotion.

Seeking to connect the jagged edges
into smooth plains of her life

After a time,
she realised
one piece remained missing.

No matter how hard she looked,
it never came to light.

She continued on through life
wondering what the hell
ever happened to regret
