Subject: Lightning and diamonds

A simple white box with a silver bow rest on my knee as I cried. There was frustration in your face, but the love was there, bright, easily recognizable, concerned. You said you wished you knew how it was to live like this. I believed you meant it.

The water broke from the sky as we walked to the car, the raindrops mixed with my tears and slid down the white box. Your patient hands helped me to unwrap the box. It was too small for flowers.

I wasn't prepared to see a diamond bracelet against a silver background. You said you thought it would make me feel better. I couldn't feel my body at all-a true blessing these days. You shyly asked if I liked it. I loved it.

Back in my room we lay in the dark, watching the thunderstorm, the lightning seemed like a symbol of us. Always on top of the rain, powerful, beautiful, setting the sky on fire. Wrapped together last night there was no where I'd rather be. I realized it was it. That you are the piece of heaven in the middle of my storm. That you will never be far. That maybe I can survive after all.
